Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Drop-off Event Tomorrow!

Tomorrow at Coconut Creek City Hall, Fort Lauderdale Residents can drop off their household hazardous waste & electronics.  Let’s keep these things out of the landfill!
Cooperative agreements with other cities provide our residents with free access to dispose of hazardous waste and electronics in partnering cities. The drop-off events are critical to protecting the environment by reducing the volume of waste in landfills and preventing the contamination of ground water. Fort Lauderdale residents are invited to participate in ANY of the drop-off events at the following locations:

Residents are advised to follow these guidelines:
Acceptable Hazardous Waste:
  • Paint, oil or latex
  • Paint thinner and stripper
  • Motor oil and filters, automotive fluids, gasoline
  • Other automotive fluids including gasoline
  • Pesticides/Insecticides
  • Fertilizers
  • Pool chemicals
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Spot removers
  • Oven and drain cleaners
  • Furniture and metal polish
  • Items containing mercury
  • Batteries, rechargeable and automotive
  • Propane tanks
  • Fuel
 
UNACCEPTABLE Hazardous Waste:
  • Biohazard/medical waste
  • Explosives
  • Waste generated from a business
 
Electronic Items Accepted:
  • Computers
  • Monitors
  • Keyboards
  • Mice
  • Terminals
  • Printers
  • Fax machines
  • Modems
  • Cell phones
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Televisions
  • Copy machines
 
Items NOT Accepted:
  • Office furniture
  • Stereos or speakers
  • Musical instruments
  • DVD players or VCR's
  • Appliances
  • Microwave ovens
  • Electric hand tools
  • Trash or debris
 
Remember, it is dangerous and illegal to place any oil wastes, dangerous substances or hazardous material for garbage collection. (Code of Ordinances Article I Sec. 24-25)
